Tools for Coping with Heavy Issues | 2009
The work of Anthony Dunne and Fiona Raby and their usage of Critical Design were the inspirations behind my senior thesis. The goal of Critical Design is to challenge it's audience's perceptions and expectations thereby provoking new ways of thinking about an object, it's use and the surrounding environment it inhabits.
Tools for Coping with Heavy Issues is a series of polemic objects which encourage debate on issues of weight control and self-image.
Slow Fork & Spoon | slows down the user during meals assisting in the proper digestion of food
Measuring Hands | pair of measuring cups based on male and female proportions enforcing the serving of correct sizes relative to human proportions and assisting in proper portion control
Mirror Bowl | half of a bowl fitted with a mirror which deceives the eye and the stomach
Product Packaging | simplified style for product packaging giving more importance to what is underneath the label
Scale Chair | discourages overeating by constantly reminding it's user of his/her weight
